love ur use of real soundtracks. obviously effort was put in scenery and avatars. My Only critic is something I myself find difficult in creating these as well, SL avatars just standing around talking (with subtitles or real sound) just arent that entertaining. I try to work around that by fast changing scenes which unfortunately sometimes also break the moviefeel, you use real soundtracks in great way. Overall we are not there yet - first 3:30 were kind of static-boring because of this.
Just an idea - it might improve a lot if you get lips moving? altho I know that also looks silly real quick.

I do think your movies are some of the very best Thorgal, but they are not the only way to make machinima. Perhaps someday the virtual world will be equal to the RL one and when that happens we will no longer need RL actors or actresses.

Emily and Thorgal are two of the very best on our scene. Consistently, and over a long time now, which deserves respect in itself for many reasons.
ReplyDeleteI admire both, in the way they try and get over the many problems of being involved in movie making for so long, which is finding ways of pushing the envelope in different ways to provide something stand out, both approaches show their evolution and desire to try and make SL Porn movies more than just another sex video. Which they do need to be, due to being limited up against RL porn. Anybody who has learned their craft in SL porn directing should try to do this.
I like to use the comic book type bubbles, for the reasons Emily states, it's my way of keeping peoples eyes where they should be among the action, but it's all down to taste, and the diversity of everybodyies take on things makes it more interesting in my view. As soon as anybody stops and puts any thought into their project they are on the right track, and our scene is better for it.
Congrats to both of you on your awards, and thanks for producing for so long and to the standards you do over many years now.

I tried to make clear I'm definitely not happy with how I solve it myself and I admire your use of sound for it. Was was wondering how/what you'd think of animated lips - so thank you for your view. Personally I think I don't have the patience to soundtrack and lip-movement :)
ps1. I've started to comment on some SLPornTube movies in what I hope to be a positive and constructive way... got a bit tired of people voting 1 star and not commenting or people only (socially) accepted to comment super-positive... we'll see what drama or reasonable feedback it'll get me ;) Iso thank you for your reply and feedback

I sure am interested if I could have the lips moving, if there was a way without having to ask people to breath in their microphone. And it is also a matter of RL privacy, not everyone wants to do this.It is something we movie makers have to respect. But the way lips move won't make it always look correct with the words of the audiotrack. And in a way I agree with Emily that it then looks silly like hiring voice dubbing actors.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Thorgal that it gets tired of the 1star ratings without even coming with a constructive comment, unfortunatly, there are trolls that probably have their daily fun in doing that, and I bet they don't even watch the video at all. It is just a hate towards a person. I myself don't really care about the star ratings anymore, what matters most is that the actors I had in a movieshoot are being proud of the finished movie and the work I spent on it.
